Upon starting the game, players are given a small cafe to start with, which contains the player's basic necessities to startup their business and resources (coins and cash) to spend on whichever they choose to have. At level 1, these resources can be spent on cooking a dish, expanding, and decorating. At the starting levels, the aforementioned activities comprise most of the quests tasks, which can be accomplished for more rewards.
As a player gains more XP, they are able to unlock more features of the game. Aside from unlocking new recipes, cafe sizes and decorations, progression into the game will allow a player to participate in quest series that give better rewards (such as Back into the Future), events (such as the Taste Traffic Challenge), throw parties and participate in the mini-games (like the Lucky Chef Spin).
Like other Gamegos games, Cafeland constantly highlights the benefit of having friends playing the game.
